The kit assembly instructions say to leave the battery disconnected but to keep inside. I didn’t like the idea of a surprise lithium battery potentially turning to spicy pillow in the future. And apparently it’s structural to the palm rest?
Anyway, I’ve just 3d printed a cuboid to replace it, took ~10 minutes and used that instead, taking the battery out. I’ve transferred the sticky foam pad on top.
If anyone wants to do the same, to save you time measuring I used: 47x29x5mm with thick double-sided tape on the bottom to stop if from rattling around. Probably do 6mm if you skip the tape.
Nice tip and certainly good for an abundance of caution.
I was considering recommending this initially. I ended up omitting the extra step because: the small cell has its own protection circuit built-in, and I believe the risk is no greater than an unmodified device that is stored and never charged. In the original design, the foam block takes up a small amount of flex in the plastic top cover with the buttons, not the full weight of the hand.
In any case, thanks for providing the measurements!

Agreed! I’m just paranoid, and feel better keeping it in a lipo battery pouch. Plus hey, free battery for some other project
I was actually surprised it even had a battery. I only buy wired peripherals and only ever used it wired. Probably I just ignored it in the product spec back then and promptly forgot about that.
